Orinda Aquatics


Character Camp 2010-11

“Prepare the child for the path, not the path for the child.”

 

This camp will be run by Ron and Don Heidary, Head Coaches and Founders of Orinda Aquatics and Head Coaches of Campolindo and Miramonte High School.  The camp will cover two tracts, one “wet” and one “dry,” four sessions each.  Additionally, there will be a mandatory orientation for parents.

 

The wet or aquatic track will cover all aspects crucial to swimming development:

·         High-Character Training – understanding and discipline

·         Technical Fundamentals – short axis and long axis balance and progressions

·         Training/Racing Around the Walls –starts ,turns, finishes, streamlining

·         Race Strategy – pace, breathing

 

The dry or personal side will cover non-swimming areas critical to swimming, athletics, and personal growth:

·         Putting “Character First” in swimming and in life (attitude and effort)

·         Goal setting and the “Big Picture”/life lessons

·         The parents role/support (parents and swimmers attend)

·         The swimming world and its role in your life: High School, USS, Collegiate Swimming

 

Cost:  A $125 (required) donation per swimmer which will go the Orinda Aquatics Outreach Fund supporting swimming needs locally and around the world.  Each swimmer will receive a T-shirt and Cap.  All coaching and merchandise are donated by Orinda Aquatics. 

 

Application/Requirements:  We will take up to 100 swimmers.  Swimmers must be ages 10 and up.  All swimmers must be mature, dedicated athletes with a positive attendance history and times near the Silver level or better.  Your rec coach should support your application.

Dates are TBD.  It has not been decided whether the program will run this Fall or next Spring. You can indicate your interest through the OA website, reference “Character Camp.”
