RECRUITING process & resources
College Recruiting Resources
Finding the right collegiate swimming program is about discovering a two-way fit—where your academic goals meet your athletic ambition. At Orinda Aquatics, our Character First philosophy prepares athletes for the highest levels of collegiate competition and teamwork.
While our coaching staff provides dedicated guidance and will write recommendations on your behalf, the recruitment process is driven by you, the student-athlete.
The Recruiting Process
1. Prioritize Your Academics
Fast times in the pool cannot overshadow poor grades. College coaches look for recruits who will excel in the classroom and remain academically eligible without risk. Be honest with yourself about your academic goals when building your target school list.
2. Build Your Profile
Begin by drafting a professional athletic resume and an introductory cover letter. Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to ensure you are cleared to compete.
3. Initiate Contact
Do not wait to be found. With limited recruiting budgets, college coaches rely heavily on proactive athletes. Identify programs that interest you, complete their online recruiting questionnaires, and email the coaching staff directly to express your interest and share your times.
4. Explore All Divisions
Look beyond Division I. There is immense diversity within the NCAA and NAIA. Often considered the "best-kept secret" in the NCAA, top-tier Division III programs frequently provide stronger academics and faster, more balanced swim programs than mid-level Division I schools.
5. Visit and Evaluate
As you move into your senior year, narrow your focus. Take unofficial and official visits to your top choices. Meet the team, observe a workout, and ensure the campus culture is a place where you will thrive for four years.
